How each alternative compares
UGREEN 6-Bay 10GbE Intel i5 NAS
The UGREEN DXP6800 Pro 6-Bay uses an Intel Core i5 processor, offering a different architecture than the FS6806X’s AMD Ryzen chip. It supports 10GbE networking, matching the original’s high-speed transfer capabilities for large files. This model is diskless, meaning you must supply your own drives, unlike the all-flash NVMe design of the Asustor. It weighs 13.4 pounds, making it significantly heavier than the 1.71-pound FS6806X. You should choose this if you prefer Intel-based processing power and standard drive flexibility over the silent, pre-configured NVMe environment of the Asustor.
TERRAMASTER 6-Bay Quad-Core NAS
The TerraMaster F6-424 features 8GB of DDR5 RAM, which matches the memory capacity of the FS6806X but uses traditional hard drive bays instead of NVMe slots. It has a quad-core processor and supports multiple RAID configurations for data redundancy. The unit measures 9.06 by 5.91 by 6.69 inches and weighs 7.5 pounds, offering a more compact footprint than the Asustor’s 12.2 by 13 by 3.54-inch chassis. This NAS is ideal if you need ample RAM for virtualization but prefer the cost and capacity benefits of HDDs over the premium speed of all-flash storage.
Asustor Lockerstor 6-Bay NAS with Dual 5GbE
The Asustor AS6706T v2 is a Lockerstor model that also targets content creators but uses a different connectivity approach. It includes dual 5GbE ports, which are slower than the FS6806X’s single 10GbE connection. This model supports NVMe acceleration but relies on traditional drive bays rather than the all-flash NVMe architecture of the FS6806X. It weighs 9.7 pounds, making it much heavier than the lightweight 1.71-pound FS6806X. You might pick this option if you want dual network ports for link aggregation and prefer a more budget-friendly entry into the Asustor ecosystem without the all-flash premium.
UGREEN NASync 6-Bay NAS with 8K HDMI
The UGREEN DXP6800 Pro Desktop NAS offers dual 10GbE connectivity, providing higher total bandwidth potential than the single 10GbE port on the FS6806X. It is designed as a desktop unit with strong processing power for managing large media libraries. Unlike the silent, fanless NVMe design of the Asustor, this model uses standard drive bays. It is suitable for users who need robust local storage and high-speed networking for professional files. You should consider this if you prioritize dual 10GbE ports and desktop form factor convenience over the compact, silent operation of the FS6806X.
UGREEN 6-Bay Core i3 Desktop NAS
The UGREEN DXP6800 Plus 6-Bay Desktop NAS includes an HDMI interface, allowing direct display output, a feature absent on the FS6806X. It features a Core i3 processor and dual 10GbE ports, offering strong processing and networking specs. This model is a desktop unit that supports standard drives, contrasting with the all-flash NVMe design of the Asustor. It is ideal for users who value direct display output and local control. You should choose this alternative if you need HDMI connectivity for monitoring or setup tasks and prefer a desktop NAS with standard drive flexibility over the specialized NVMe architecture of the FS6806X.
Synology 6-Bay 2.5 Inch NAS DS620slim
The Synology DS620slim is designed for 2.5-inch drives, offering a compact form factor that differs significantly from the FS6806X’s standard drive or NVMe slots. It has a smaller footprint, measuring 6.89 by 5.94 by 4.76 inches, and weighs only 3.09 pounds. This model includes 2GB of DDR3L memory, which is less than the 8GB of DDR5 in the Asustor. It supports local video transcoding and snapshot flexibility. You should pick this NAS if you need a small, quiet solution for 2.5-inch drives and do not require the high-speed NVMe performance or large RAM capacity of the FS6806X.
