Comparing alternatives to Sandisk SSD
Silicon Power 2TB Armor A80 Rugged Hard Drive
The Silicon Power Armor A80 uses a 2.5-inch HDD with USB 3.0 instead of the SanDisk SSD. It weighs 9.52 ounces and measures 5.49 by 3.7 by 0.71 inches, making it bulkier than the 3.53-ounce SanDisk drive. This model prioritizes rugged physical protection over the faster read speeds of the SanDisk. You get durable storage for harsh environments but sacrifice the 800MB/s speed. This option suits users who value impact resistance and mechanical reliability more than quick data transfer rates for gaming or fast file access.
Western Digital 2TB WD Red Plus NAS HDD
The Western Digital WD Red Plus is a 3.5-inch internal NAS drive with SATA interface, unlike the portable SanDisk SSD. It features 5400 RPM rotation and CMR recording technology with 64MB cache. Weighing 1.32 pounds, it is significantly heavier and larger than the compact SanDisk unit. This drive is designed for continuous operation in multi-bay NAS systems rather than portable use. You gain reliability and consistency for network storage but lose portability and the high-speed USB connectivity of the SanDisk drive.
WD 2TB Elements Portable Hard Drive
The WD Elements Portable HDD is a 2.5-inch external drive with USB 3.0 interface, weighing 4.64 ounces. It measures 3.24 by 4.37 by 0.83 inches, which is slightly larger than the SanDisk SSD. This drive offers basic high-capacity storage for backups and media on PC, Mac, PS4, and Xbox. It lacks the 800MB/s read speeds of the SanDisk SSD. You choose this for budget-friendly capacity and broad device compatibility rather than the speed and compact durability of the SanDisk Fortnite Edition.
Western Digital WD Black 2TB 7200 RPM HDD
The WD Black 2TB is a 3.5-inch internal desktop HDD with SATA interface and 7200 RPM rotation speed. It includes 64MB cache and weighs 1.72 pounds. This drive is built for desktop gaming and creative workstations, not for portable use. It provides consistent performance for stationary setups but lacks the USB portability and compact form factor of the SanDisk SSD. You get higher rotational speed for local desktop tasks but give up the ability to easily carry storage between devices.
Seagate Backup Plus Slim 2TB Portable HDD
The Seagate Backup Plus Slim is a 2TB portable HDD with USB 3.0 interface, weighing 4.8 ounces. It measures 4.47 by 2.99 by 0.48 inches, offering a slim profile compatible with PC and Mac. This drive focuses on lightweight portability for general backups. It does not match the 800MB/s read speeds of the SanDisk SSD. You select this for its slim design and straightforward backup utility, accepting slower transfer speeds in exchange for a simple, lightweight solution for everyday data storage needs.
Apricorn Aegis Padlock 2TB Encrypted Desktop Drive
The Apricorn Aegis Padlock is a 2TB desktop encrypted drive with a desktop form factor. It weighs 6 ounces and measures 4.25 by 1 by 2 inches. This drive provides robust hardware encryption for secure stationary storage, unlike the portable SanDisk SSD. It is designed for users prioritizing security compliance over mobility. You gain enhanced data protection for fixed locations but lose the compact size, USB connectivity, and high-speed performance of the SanDisk drive intended for on-the-go use.
