Our top pick: SP Silicon Power Armor A60 4TB Rugged USB-C Drive.
How each alternative compares to the A60
LaCie 2big Dock 8TB External RAID Drive
The LaCie 2big Dock replaces the portable A60 with a heavy desktop unit designed for stationary workstations. It offers 8TB of storage via Thunderbolt 3 and USB 3.0, providing significantly faster data transfer speeds than the A60’s USB 3.1 Gen 1 interface. This drive supports RAID configurations for data redundancy, which the single-drive A60 cannot match. You gain direct card slot ingestion for video workflows, but you sacrifice portability entirely. The 4.65-pound weight and large footprint make it unsuitable for field use. Choose this if you need desktop redundancy and speed rather than rugged travel storage.
LaCie Mobile Drive 2TB USB-C External HDD
The LaCie Mobile Drive 2TB is much smaller and lighter than the A60, weighing only 7.05 ounces compared to the A60’s 8.04 ounces. It features a sleek Space Grey aluminum body rather than the A60’s rugged black-green casing. While it lacks the military-grade shockproof and IPX4 water-resistant protection of the A60, it offers superior portability for travelers. The 2TB capacity is half that of the A60, which may limit you if you store large media files. It supports both PC and Mac natively without reformatting issues. Pick this if you prioritize compact size and cross-platform ease over physical durability and high capacity.
LaCie 2big RAID 16TB Desktop Hard Drive
The LaCie 2big RAID 16TB is a massive desktop drive that contrasts sharply with the portable A60. It provides 16TB of storage using 7200 RPM drives connected via USB-C, offering much higher performance than the A60’s standard portable speeds. This unit is built for redundancy and large creative workflows, making it ideal for professionals who need massive, fast storage on a desk. You give up all portability, as this drive is heavy and requires a dedicated workspace. It lacks the shockproof and water-resistant features of the A60. Choose this if you need desktop redundancy and speed rather than rugged travel storage.
LaCie Mobile Drive 5TB Portable HDD
The LaCie Mobile Drive 5TB Aluminum offers more storage than the A60’s 4TB in a similarly thin profile. It features a premium metal build and supports Thunderbolt 3, which provides faster data transfer speeds than the A60’s USB 3.1 Gen 1 interface. However, it lacks the rugged, military-grade shockproof and IPX4 water-resistant protection found in the A60. The aluminum chassis is sleek but less durable against drops and spills. It works with both PC and Mac systems. Select this if you want higher capacity and faster Thunderbolt speeds on a Mac, but do not need the rugged durability of the A60 for field work.
Silicon Power Armor A60 4TB USB-C Drive
This Silicon Power Armor A60 is nearly identical to the original but uses a USB-C to USB-A cable instead of USB-C to USB-C. It retains the 4TB capacity and military-grade shockproof and IPX4 water-resistant protection. The dimensions and weight are the same as the original model. The key difference is the included cable, which may suit users whose devices only have USB-A ports. It requires reformatting for Mac use, just like the original. Choose this variant if you prefer USB-A connectivity for older PCs or consoles, while keeping the same rugged durability and storage capacity as the main A60 model.
Toshiba Canvio Flex 1TB USB-C Portable Drive
The Toshiba Canvio Flex 1TB is significantly smaller and lighter than the A60, weighing just 5.28 ounces with a slim 0.53-inch profile. It offers 1TB of storage, which is much less than the A60’s 4TB capacity. This drive lacks the rugged, military-grade shockproof and IPX4 water-resistant protection of the A60, making it less suitable for harsh environments. It features a simple silver design and includes both USB-C and USB-A cables for cross-platform compatibility. It is ideal for users who need basic, portable storage for documents and small files rather than heavy media. Pick this if you prioritize minimal size and included cables over capacity and durability.
