Specifications side by side

How to choose the right one

1. Check physical dimensions

These drives are portable external units, not internal NAS components. Sizes vary from 3.15 to 5.16 inches wide. Verify your enclosure or docking station compatibility before buying. The iStorage diskAshur2 is the narrowest option at 3.15 inches. Ensure your setup accommodates the specific width and depth. Portability matters if you transport data. Measure your available space accurately to avoid fit issues with your chosen model.

2. Verify hardware encryption

All listed models feature robust hardware encryption. This secures data at the chip level without impacting performance. You do not need software to encrypt files. The diskAshur PRO2 adds FIPS certification for strict compliance needs. Choose this if your organization requires government-grade security standards. The encryption is built into the drive controller. This ensures your sensitive files remain protected even if the drive is lost or stolen.

3. Compare physical durability

You need portable encrypted storage that withstands physical hazards. The diskAshur2 is ideal for users handling sensitive data on the go. Its rugged design protects against drops and shocks. Consider the weight and casing material for your workflow. If you travel frequently, prioritize a model with a reinforced shell. The Green version offers a balance of size and protection. Check the weight specifications to ensure it fits your carrying case.

4. Assess security interface

Authentication methods vary across the lineup. The diskAshur3 uses a physical keypad for access. This prevents unauthorized entry even if the drive is connected. The PRO2 relies on PIN entry via software or hardware. Decide which method suits your security protocol. A physical keypad adds a layer of tangible security. It prevents remote hacking attempts on the authentication process. Select the interface that matches your team's access requirements.

5. Review compliance standards

Regulatory compliance is critical for many professionals. The diskAshur PRO2 offers FIPS certification for secure mobile storage. This meets specific federal and industry security benchmarks. If you work in healthcare or finance, verify these standards. The diskAshur3 also emphasizes compliance with its physical keypad security. Ensure your chosen drive meets your organization's audit requirements. Check the model specifications for any listed certifications before purchasing.
