Specifications side by side

How to choose the right one

1. Check physical dimensions

You must verify the drive fits your available space before purchasing. The iStorage diskAshur PRO2 stands out with a thickness of just 0.79 inches, making it the most compact option in this group. In contrast, the diskAshur3 is significantly larger at 0.82 inches thick. If you are installing drives in tight enclosures or portable cases, these slight differences in width and height matter. Measure your mounting area carefully to ensure compatibility with the specific model you select for your setup.

2. Verify weight limits

Portability requires attention to weight specifications. You should check the ounces listed for each model if you plan to carry the drive frequently. The diskAshur2 weighs 7.62 ounces, while the diskAshur PRO2 is slightly heavier at 7.94 ounces. The diskAshur3 adds more mass at 8.8 ounces due to its larger form factor. If you are building a mobile storage solution, lighter drives reduce fatigue and make transportation easier. Compare these weights against your carrying capacity needs.

3. Assess capacity needs

Storage capacity determines how much data you can retain. You have two distinct tiers in this selection: 1TB and 500GB. The diskAshur2 and diskAshur3 both offer 1TB of space, suitable for larger datasets. The PRO2 and M2 provide 500GB, which is sufficient for smaller, critical files. You should choose the 1TB models if you need to store extensive archives. Select the 500GB options if your primary concern is security and portability rather than maximum volume.

4. Identify drive type

You need to distinguish between traditional hard drives and solid-state drives. The diskAshur2, PRO2, and diskAshur3 are HDDs, relying on mechanical parts for storage. The diskAshur M2 is explicitly labeled as a Portable SSD. This distinction affects durability and speed. SSDs generally handle physical shock better than HDDs. If you require rugged performance for outdoor or travel use, the M2’s solid-state design offers advantages over the mechanical diskAshur2 or diskAshur3 models listed here.

5. Review model numbers

Specific model numbers help you identify exact features. Each drive has a unique code, such as IS-DA2-256-1000-GN for the green diskAshur2. You should use these identifiers when checking for firmware updates or compatibility with your NAS system. The diskAshur PRO2 uses IS-DAP2-256-500-C-X, while the M2 is IS-DAM2-256-500. Accurate model identification ensures you download the correct drivers and accessories. Do not rely solely on the marketing name, as variations exist within the diskAshur series.
