diskAshur2 vs diskAshur PRO2 Specs
Certification Level
Both drives use the same secure microprocessor and AES-XTS 256-bit encryption. The key difference is the certification standard. The diskAshur PRO2 holds FIPS 140-2 Level 3 certification. This is a US government standard for cryptographic modules. The diskAshur2 Red lacks this specific FIPS badge. It relies on Common Criteria EAL 5+ certification instead. If your organization requires strict government compliance, the PRO2 is the clear choice. For general business security, both offer robust protection without software installation.
Physical Dimensions
The two drives have different physical footprints despite similar capacities. The diskAshur2 Red measures 4.72 inches in length. It is 3.15 inches wide and 0.59 inches high. The diskAshur PRO2 is slightly taller at 0.79 inches. It measures 4.88 inches in height and 3.31 inches in length. The PRO2 is wider but shorter in the other dimension. These differences affect how they fit in bags or pockets. You should check your carrying case dimensions before choosing based on portability needs.
Weight
Portability also depends on weight. The diskAshur2 Red weighs 7.62 ounces. The diskAshur PRO2 is slightly heavier at 7.94 ounces. The difference is 0.32 ounces. This is a negligible amount for most users. Both drives are light enough for daily travel. The slight weight increase in the PRO2 likely comes from its thicker casing. You will not notice this difference during normal use. Neither drive has a significant advantage in weight for mobile professionals.
Interface Speed
Both drives offer identical transfer speeds. They use USB 3.2 interfaces. The diskAshur2 Red reads up to 160MB/s. It writes up to 143MB/s. The diskAshur PRO2 matches these exact figures. Both are backwards compatible with older USB ports. You get the same performance regardless of which model you pick. The encryption process does not slow down the data flow. If speed is your primary concern, both drives perform equally well for everyday file transfers.
Color Options
The diskAshur2 Red comes in a distinct red color. This helps you identify it quickly in a bag. The diskAshur PRO2 is available in graphite. This color is more neutral and professional. The diskAshur2 also offers green, black, and blue options. The data does not list other colors for the PRO2. If you prefer a standard look, the graphite PRO2 is better. If you want a bright identifier, the red diskAshur2 is the winner.
Which secure drive fits your needs
Users needing US government crypto standards
Choose the PRO2 if you require FIPS 140-2 Level 3 certification. This specific government standard validates the cryptographic modules for strict regulatory compliance. The diskAshur2 lacks this specific federal certification, making the PRO2 the necessary choice for agencies or contractors bound by these rigorous security protocols.
Those preferring a compact, red design
Select the diskAshur2 Red if you want a smaller footprint. It measures 3.15 by 4.72 inches and weighs 7.62 ounces. The PRO2 is larger at 3.31 by 4.88 inches and slightly heavier at 7.94 ounces. The Red model offers the same encryption and speed in a more portable package.
Buyers wanting more color variety
The diskAshur2 Red comes in more color options, including green, black, and blue. The PRO2 is primarily available in graphite. If you want to match your drive to a specific aesthetic or color code, the Red model provides greater visual variety while maintaining identical performance and security specs.
