The LaCie Mobile Drive 5TB Portable HDD offers high capacity in a durable aluminum frame with broad USB-C and legacy USB 3.0 compatibility. If you are searching for lacie mobile drive 5tb external alternatives, you might want a different spec, size, feature or brand to better suit your specific workflow. This drive functions as a straightforward high-capacity storage solution for multi-device setups, but it may not fit every user's needs. Some buyers prefer desktop models for fixed workstations, while others seek smaller capacities for lighter loads. You might also look for drives with additional connectivity options like card readers or docking stations. These alternatives were chosen because their specs overlap with the original, ensuring they meet similar core requirements. The list includes options ranging from compact 2TB models to massive 24TB desktop units. Each product provides distinct advantages depending on whether you prioritize portability, speed, or expanded connectivity. This guide helps you compare these choices based on published specifications rather than marketing claims. You can find the right drive by examining the data provided for each model. Whether you need a budget-friendly option or a premium workstation drive, there is a suitable alternative available.
How these alternatives compare
LaCie 2big Dock 8TB External RAID Drive
The LaCie 2big Dock shifts from portable use to a fixed desktop setup. It offers 8TB of storage in an 8.54-inch tall chassis, which weighs 4.65 pounds. This model adds RAID redundancy and built-in card readers for creative workflows. You lose the slim portability of the 5TB drive, which fits in a bag. The docking station requires a permanent desk location. Choose this if you need enterprise-tier storage and expanded connectivity for video editing or large archives on a stationary workstation.
LaCie Mobile Drive 2TB USB-C External HDD
The LaCie Mobile Drive 2TB keeps the same aluminum build and USB-C interface but reduces capacity to 2TB. It is thinner at 0.39 inches and lighter at 7.05 ounces. This makes it easier to carry in a laptop sleeve. You sacrifice 3TB of space compared to the 5TB model. Select this version if your daily backup needs are smaller. It provides the same plug-and-play compatibility with Mac and PC systems in a more compact package for users who prioritize weight over volume.
Seagate One Touch Hub 8TB External Hard Drive
The Seagate One Touch Hub provides 8TB of desktop storage with front-facing USB hub ports. It measures 7.81 inches long and weighs 2.73 pounds. This drive includes built-in password security for data protection. You give up the portable form factor and Thunderbolt 3 support found in the LaCie. This model is better for users who want to expand their computer’s connectivity while storing large files. It suits stationary setups where you need extra USB ports and significant storage capacity on one desk.
YOTUO 320GB Portable External Hard Drive
The YOTUO 320GB drive is designed for gaming consoles like PS4 and Xbox. It includes a silicone sleeve for shock protection and weighs 8.82 ounces. The capacity is much lower than the 5TB LaCie drive. It uses USB 3.0 and USB-C connections. This option is ideal for offloading games to free up internal console space. You should pick this if you need a compact, durable drive for gaming rather than general file backups. It is not suitable for high-capacity data storage needs.
LaCie 1big Dock 24TB Thunderbolt 3 Desktop Hard Drive
The LaCie 1big Dock offers 24TB of storage with 7200 RPM rotational speed for faster data access. It is a large desktop unit measuring 12.2 inches wide. It features Thunderbolt 3 connectivity and laptop charging capabilities. You sacrifice all portability for massive capacity and speed. This drive is built for professional workstations that require high throughput and extensive storage. Choose this if you need a stationary, high-performance solution for video production or large database management on a fixed desk.
YOTUO 500GB USB-C Docking Station HDD
The YOTUO 500GB drive combines storage with a USB-C docking station. It weighs 10.4 ounces and includes card readers for media access. The capacity is significantly smaller than the 5TB LaCie drive. This model helps expand laptop ports while providing local storage. It is best for users who need to connect multiple peripherals and access memory cards. Select this if you value connectivity expansion over raw storage volume. It offers a practical all-in-one solution for compact desktop or travel setups with lower data requirements.
