6 Best Alternatives to the Seagate Skyhawk ST6000VX001 6TB 3.5" (2026)

How the Alternatives Compare

Western Digital AV-GP 1TB 3.5-Inch Hard Drive

The Western Digital AV-GP offers 1TB of storage, which is significantly less than the 6TB capacity of the Seagate Skyhawk. It maintains the 3.5-inch form factor and SATA interface, ensuring compatibility with your existing DVR or NVR hardware. However, it lacks the rotational speed details in the provided data, focusing instead on budget-friendly pricing for single-camera setups. You should choose this drive if you have minimal recording needs and prioritize lower cost over large storage volume. It is ideal for home users who do not require multi-day retention for high-resolution footage. The smaller capacity means you will overwrite older recordings much faster than with the Skyhawk.

Toshiba 14TB Enterprise 7200 RPM HDD (Renewed)

The Toshiba MG07ACA14TE provides 14TB of storage, more than double the capacity of the Seagate Skyhawk. It operates at 7200 RPM, which is faster than the Skyhawk’s 5400 RPM, offering better performance for demanding tasks. This drive also includes a 256MB cache, compared to the unlisted cache size of the Skyhawk, potentially improving data handling. It is suited for users who need high-capacity surveillance or server storage and can tolerate the higher noise and heat generated by faster spinning platters. If you prioritize capacity and speed over quiet operation, this enterprise-grade option is a strong alternative. It fits well in systems where maximum retention time is critical.

Western Digital RE 4TB 7200 RPM Hard Drive

The Western Digital RE 4TB drive offers 4TB of storage, which is less than the 6TB provided by the Seagate Skyhawk. It runs at 7200 RPM, providing faster rotational speed than the Skyhawk’s 5400 RPM. It features a 64MB cache and a 3.5-inch SATA interface, maintaining compatibility with standard surveillance hardware. This drive is designed for high-reliability, 24x7 enterprise storage needs. You should consider this option if you need robust performance in a smaller capacity form factor. It is ideal for business-critical applications where consistent uptime is more important than maximizing storage space. The faster speed may benefit systems with multiple concurrent write streams, despite the reduced total capacity.

Seagate Exos 7E8 6TB Enterprise Drive

The Seagate Exos 7E8 matches the 6TB capacity of the Skyhawk but is an enterprise drive rather than a surveillance-specific model. It features a 256MB cache, which is likely larger than the Skyhawk’s unspecified cache, potentially enhancing performance. It maintains the 3.5-inch form factor and SATA interface for easy integration. This drive is suited for business-centric NAS systems or servers that require reliable, high-capacity storage. You might prefer this if you need enterprise-grade durability and performance in a renewed package. It offers similar storage volume but targets a different use case focused on general business data rather than continuous video recording. It is a solid choice for users who value consistent throughput in mixed workloads.

Seagate Exos X14 14TB Renewed Enterprise HDD

The Seagate Exos X14 provides 14TB of storage, significantly exceeding the 6TB capacity of the Skyhawk. It operates at 7200 RPM, which is faster than the Skyhawk’s 5400 RPM, offering improved performance for high-volume data handling. It retains the 3.5-inch form factor and SATA interface for broad compatibility. This drive is ideal for users who prioritize storage volume and performance over new condition, as it is sold as a renewed enterprise HDD. It fits well in high-capacity surveillance or enterprise storage systems where maximum retention time is essential. If you need double the storage space and faster speeds, this option delivers robust performance. It is best for setups that can accommodate the slightly higher power and noise levels typical of 7200 RPM drives.

MFerraz 6TB Enterprise 7200 RPM Hard Drive

The MFerraz 6TB drive matches the 6TB capacity of the Seagate Skyhawk but operates at 7200 RPM, offering faster rotational speed. It includes a 256MB cache, which may improve data buffering compared to the Skyhawk’s unspecified cache. It maintains the 3.5-inch form factor and SATA interface for standard compatibility. This enterprise drive is designed for RAID arrays needing consistent throughput and vibration tolerance. You should choose this if you prioritize performance and reliability in a multi-drive setup. It is suitable for users who need enterprise-grade features without the specific surveillance optimizations of the Skyhawk. It offers similar storage volume but targets users who value speed and durability in demanding RAID environments over quiet operation.
